New Year’s Eve 2025

Parking in Calgary on New Year's Eve

New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest nights in the city. Streets and parkades fill up quickly and temporary restrictions help keep traffic flowing and pedestrians safe. While it’s about celebration, safety comes first. Planning ahead for parking and road access means fewer delays and safer roads so everyone can ring in the new year with a better experience getting around.

Road closures and community access

For pedestrian and traffic safety, the following closures and restrictions will be in effect from 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025 to 1 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. For more information on road closures and community access, please visit the special event road closures page:

  • After midnight on Thursday, Jan. 1, vehicles parked in Sunnyside will be able to exit westbound onto Memorial Drive N.W.

Crescent Heights and Rosedale communities

  • Residents can access their homes via the vehicle access points

Safe and smart parking

With celebrations, heavy traffic, and winter weather, planning ahead helps keep everyone safe and stress-free. Here’s how to make your night memorable for the right reasons:

Winter parking tips

Parking in winter requires extra care. Here’s what to keep in mind:

  • Use the MyParking App or Pay as Guest feature for easy payment, notifications and a map of available parking
  • Avoid snowbanks. They block visibility and create hazards for drivers and pedestrians
  • Clear your vehicle. Remove snow from windows, mirrors, and lights so your car is visible
  • Choose well-lit areas. It’s safer and helps deter theft

Follow parking rules

To avoid tickets or towing:

  • Respect No-Parking zones: Watch for signs and stay clear of intersections, hydrants and bus stops
  • Obey time limits: Time-restricted parking zones are enforced to ensure fair access for everyone. Check the parking signs and park safely and responsibly

Be a good neighbour

When parking your vehicle, be a good neighbour and:

  • Don’t block driveways or sidewalks
  • Leave accessible spaces for those who need them

If you get a ticket

  • Read the ticket carefully. Understand why it was issued
  • Act promptly. Paying early can reduce costs. Learn more about early payment incentives
  • Know your options. If you believe it’s an error, you can appeal the ticket

Plan your exit

  • Give yourself extra time to leave safely and avoid bottlenecks—or consider leaving your car and using transit, rideshare or a designated driver
  • Celebrate responsibly, park smart and enjoy every moment as you ring in the New Year

Getting around safely

New Year’s Eve is one of the busiest nights of the year—make parking one less thing to worry about! Here are five parking tips to keep your celebrations stress-free:

  • Plan ahead: Decide where you’ll park before heading out. Regular rates apply in all ParkPlus zones, parkades and surface lots. Please respect all accessible parking spots by leaving them for those who need them
  • Use our maps: Check the interactive Calgary On-Street Parking Map for rates and time limits or explore the Calgary Parking Map for convenient off-street options
  • Skip the pay machine: Stay warm and pay easily with ParkPlus. Use the MyParking app, ParkPlus for web, text-to-park, call-to-park or the Virtual Pay Machine as a guest
  • Hosting at home: Give your neighbours a heads-up about extra cars and remind guests not to block driveways. Fun fact: most complaints we get are about neighbour parking! If you live in a permit zone, you can request a parking relaxation through 311
  • Stay safe: Park smart and use Waze for real-time traffic updates to keep everyone safe on the road

Heavy traffic and winter weather can make getting home tricky. Celebrate responsibly and stay safe with these tips:

  • Plan your ride home: If needed, leave your car and use a designated driver, taxi, rideshare or transit
  • Dress for the weather: Wear warm, bright and reflective clothing
  • Watch for slippery surfaces: Roads, sidewalks and pathways can be icy—choose footwear with good traction

New Year’s Eve is about enjoying the people and places that matter most. By planning ahead and using available resources, you’ll spend less time worrying and more time celebrating.

From all of us—Happy New Year!
