Supporting Spring Clean-up - community street sweeping
Calgary Parking supports The City of Calgary’s Spring Clean-up program by providing parking enforcement during community street sweeping. The Spring Clean-up program takes place between mid-April and July (weather permitting).
On-street bans in your community occur on the day your street is scheduled for sweeping, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Our camera cars tag vehicles left on the street during a parking ban and a ticket is issued via mail to the registered owner. You can find more information on fines below.
Validating a street sweeping ban
Calgary Parking officers work with City of Calgary Mobility crews to make sure proper signage is deployed before the sweeping date. While signs are an important way of sharing information, Calgarians can also sign up for e-mail/text notifications or do an address lookup by visiting Calgary.ca/sweep
A few days before your community sweeping date, “No Parking on Street” board signs will be placed at major entrances in your neighbourhood. These signs are strategically placed so residents travelling through the community will see them. Our enforcement team verifies the locations and information on signs for accuracy before validating the ban.
On the day of the ban, on-street parking is prohibited from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Suitable locations for parking include driveways, garages, and back lanes (please make sure adequate clearance is maintained should you park in a back lane). Other locations may include private lots (with the owner’s permission) and of course, Calgary Parking lots.
During the day of the ban, Calgary Parking camera-enforcement vehicles patrol communities that are being swept. Any vehicle that has not been removed from the street is the subject of a parking infraction. The vehicle is tagged and a ticket will be issued to the registered owner of the vehicle by mail.

Towing
Some areas will have additional no parking signage, where vehicles are subject to be ticketed and towed. These bans are indicated by 3-foot-high square "No Parking" signs placed along the roadway. They will be placed at least 24 hours before street sweeping. If vehicles are towed:
- Calgary Parking pays for towing if the vehicle can be taken to a nearby space.
- The vehicle owner pays the ticket, tow, and impound fee if it is taken to the Municipal Impound Lot.
Fine amounts
Should your vehicle be left on the street during a street sweeping ban, you may be subject to a fine (and/or an impound fee in cases of a tow).

Why is there a Street Sweeping Parking Ban in my neighbourhood during Spring Clean-up?
On certain times and days, parking is prohibited to let the street cleaning truck pass and for other maintenance works. Calgary Parking makes sure that the parking regulations are followed to make things safer, keep traffic moving and maintain community rules for The City of Calgary.
Regular parking restrictions resume after 4 p.m., and on-street parking is free after 6 p.m.
Can I repark my vehicle immediately after the sweepers pass my neighbourhood?
Do not park on the street when street sweeping is happening in your neighbourhood. Street-sweeping parking bans are active Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They must be followed even after the cleaning truck has passed, as Calgary Parking camera-enforcement vehicles patrol the area during this time.
If your vehicle is seen back on the street during this period by the camera-enforcement vehicle, you may get a ticket sent by mail and be fined up to $120 for this parking infraction. Always check signs before parking your vehicle.
How can I avoid getting a parking ticket or having my vehicle towed?
Keep an eye on the parking signs at major entrances in your neighbourhood. Parking regulations might differ from one zone to another, so always watch out for signs that could affect your vehicle.
To avoid getting a ticket:
- Move your vehicle off the road during the entire duration of the ban
- Your vehicle must remain off the road even after the maintenance truck has cleared the road
- Sign up for roads notifications online.
How do I appeal a parking ticket?
If you think you got a parking tag or infraction notice by mistake, you can ask for an administrative review/appeal up to 10 days before the court date. Remember, only unpaid tickets can be appealed.
What should I do if I get a ticket or my vehicle is short-towed?
If your vehicle gets short-towed, we might have moved it to a nearby spot outside the parking ban route, likely just a few blocks from your home. You can also contact us at 403-537-7000 to find out where your vehicle was towed.
