Calgary Parking Inspires Youth at the 2026 Mayor’s Environment Expo

We were proud to participate as an exhibitor at the 2026 Mayor’s Environment Expo, an event focused on youth climate education and environmental leadership.

Through this opportunity, we connected with thousands of students, helping them understand how everyday choices such as how we travel, park and move through our city play a role in climate action and sustainability.

Helping youth see the impact of everyday decisions

At our booth, students explored how small actions and smart systems can make a big impact. Through hands-on activities and real-world examples, they learned how:

  • Transportation choices can influence congestion, emissions and air quality
  • Well-managed parking reduces unnecessary driving and vehicle idling
  • Choosing active transportation like walking, biking or e‑biking supports a healthier, more efficient city

These experiences helped students see themselves as environmental leaders and understand the role they can play in shaping Calgary’s future.

Connecting technology to better outcomes

We also demonstrated how modern parking technology supports both service improvements and environmental outcomes.

Students explored examples such as:

  • EV charging and electric fleet vehicles, supporting lower-emission travel
  • Solar-powered infrastructure and LED lighting, reducing energy use
  • Digital payments and paperless systems, improving convenience while reducing waste and service trips
  • Licence Plate Recognition (LPR), enabling virtual enforcement and fewer patrol vehicle trips
  • Bicycle parking and e-bike patrols, supporting active transportation

Through these examples, we showed how sustainability is built into both how we operate and what we offer to customers.

By connecting these efforts to real-world outcomes, we shifted the focus from individual initiatives to overall impact, showing how they help reduce congestion, support cleaner travel and makes it easier for people to choose more efficient ways to move around the city.

Licence plate recognition (LPR) enables virtual enforcement, meaning fewer patrol vehicles on the road.

Continuous improvement in action

Our presence at the Expo reflects one of our key service priorities: continuous improvement.

This includes:

  • Improving processes to make parking easier and more intuitive
  • Enhancing the customer experience through smarter, more responsive services
  • Using feedback and innovation to better meet the needs of Calgarians

Events like the Expo give us the opportunity to listen, learn and evolve; ensuring our services continue to deliver real value while supporting broader City goals.

Our School Patrol Program allows officiers to speak to citizens directly, answering any questions they might have and take direct feedback.

Supporting a cleaner, safer, more efficient city

Parking plays an important role in how people move through the city, not just where they park.

When parking systems are designed and managed effectively:

  • Fewer vehicles circle looking for parking, reducing congestion and emissions
  • Emergency and transit routes stay clear, improving safety
  • Streets and public spaces become accessible and more efficient

Through thoughtful design, technology and operations, we support a cleaner, safer and more efficient city every day.

Properly designed parking systems keep fewer vehicles from circling around. This reduces emissions, reduces congestion and makes streets safer.

Inspiring the next generation

Our presence at the Mayor’s Environment Expo reinforces our commitment to climate action, innovation and service excellence. It also highlights how something as routine as parking can contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes.

By continuing to focus on continuous improvement and connecting our work to real-world impact, we are helping build a city where moving sustainably is easier and everyday choices support a better Calgary.
