Report illegally parked vehicles
Illegal parking can create real safety issues. It can block sightlines, prevent emergency access, restrict sidewalks and bike lanes and make it harder for people to move safely through their neighbourhoods.
When you report illegal parking, you’re helping Parking Safety & Compliance Officers respond in real time and keep Calgary’s streets safe, accessible and moving for everyone.
Service hours
- Monday to Friday: 6 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.
- Saturday & Sunday: 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 a.m.
- Hours may vary on holidays
When to report illegally parked vehicles
You should report a vehicle if it is currently parked and creating a safety or access issue, such as:
- blocking a crosswalk, corner or intersection
- blocking a driveway, alley or laneway
- parked in a no‑parking or no‑stopping zone
- blocking a fire hydrant, bike lane or sidewalk
- restricting access for emergency vehicles, transit or people using mobility aids
Reports must be made while the vehicle is still parked, so officers can attend and assess the situation.
What officers need from you
Having the right information ready helps officers respond faster and more accurately. When you call, please be prepared to share:
- your name and address
- a primary and alternate phone number
- the exact location of the vehicle (street address or nearest intersection)
- a brief description of the issue (for example, “blocking a crosswalk” or “parked in a no‑stopping zone”)
How reporting works
To report an illegally parked vehicle
Phone calls are the only way to report illegal parking, because these requests must be handled in real time. Online forms and emails are not monitored for this purpose.
Similar to other City reporting channels such as 311 and Traffic Services, basic contact information may be collected to help initiate and manage the request, including follow‑up if clarification is needed. This information is collected in accordance with Alberta’s Protection of Privacy Act for service delivery purposes only and is kept confidential.
Providing complete information helps us take action and keep Calgary’s streets safe and accessible for everyone.
What happens after you report
Once your report is received:
- A Parking Safety & Compliance Officer is dispatched when available
- The officer attends the location and assesses the situation
- If a violation is confirmed, appropriate action may be taken
Response times can vary depending on officer availability, call volume and safety priorities across the city. Not every report will result in a ticket, but every report is reviewed.
What not to report
This reporting line is for illegal parking only.
- If the situation is an emergency or someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
- For problems like missing or unclear signs, road design concerns, or curb markings, contact 311. These issues are handled by City infrastructure teams.
- The Traffic Service Request is the official way to report ongoing traffic safety issues, including speeding concerns, school or playground zone violations and repeated or persistent traffic problems at a specific location
- Submitting a Traffic Service Request alerts the Calgary Police Service Traffic Unit, who may monitor the area and assess it for enforcement or photo radar.
How to access the Traffic Service Request form:
Visit calgary.ca and search “Traffic Reporting”, then select Traffic Service Request.
Why reporting matters
Illegal parking isn’t just inconvenient — it can put people at risk.
By reporting issues when they happen, you help:
- protect children, seniors and people with disabilities
- keep sidewalks, bike lanes and crossings accessible
- ensure emergency vehicles can get through
- support fair, consistent enforcement across neighbourhoods
This work supports Calgary’s shared goals for public safety, community care and a well‑managed city — where small actions help make life better every day.
