Required Documentation
Depending on the situation, you will require different documentation if:
If your vehicle is uninsured or unregistered, it can only be towed from the Impound Lot at your expense.
If either you or your authorized person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the vehicle will not be released.
If your vehicle (or property) was seized as part of an investigation, it can only be released by the approval of the Peace Officer that seized your vehicle.
If you are picking up your vehicle, you need to show the following documentation before your vehicle is released:
- Proof of Ownership
- Proof of a valid Driver’s Licence
- Proof of Insurance
If somebody else is picking up your vehicle, they will need to show the following documentation before your vehicle is released:
- A letter of authorization from you (the registered owner) indicating the make, model, licence plate number and Vehicle identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle to be released, signed and dated by you (the registered owner).
- A copy of the vehicle’s Proof of Ownership
- A copy of the vehicle’s Proof of Insurance
- Proof of a valid Driver’s Licence
If your vehicle has dealer plates, then you need to show the following documentation before your vehicle is released:
- Proof of a valid Driver’s Licence
- Proof of Registration for the Dealer Plate
- Proof of Insurance for the Dealer Plate
- Proof the vehicle is owned by the individual or company that owns the dealer plate such as a bill of sale or bill of lading.
- Evidence of an association with the individual or company that owns the dealer plate such as business card or pay stub.
If your vehicle is a rental vehicle, then you need to show the following documentation before your vehicle is released:
- Proof of a valid Driver’s Licence
- Copy of your Rental Agreement which must be in your name
- Rental company employees must show evidence of an association with the rental company such as a business card or pay stub.
