Can I park my RV on city streets and alleys? |
Yes, you can, but only on a city street or alley immediately adjoining to your home and for a maximum of 36 hours. The 36-hour time limit is provided for owners to prepare vehicles for use or to clean and prepare them for storage after use. Remember to heed special rules for alley parking.
However, note that unattached trailers or campers cannot be parked on city streets or alleys. To park a trailer or camper on a city street or alley, it must be attached to a towing vehicle. |
Can I park my RV on my front driveway? |
Yes, but for a maximum of 24 hours. The time limit is provided for owners to prepare vehicles for use or to clean and prepare them for storage after use. |
Can tourists or visitors to Calgary park their RV on public streets? |
RV's that are not registered to a Calgary address may legally park on city streets and alleys providing they obey all posted restrictions and are parked in accordance with city Bylaws. RV's that are parked on the street for extended periods of time without moving may be treated as an abandoned vehicle and they may be impounded.

I am renting an RV from a rental company, and therefore the owner's address is different than mine. Can I still make use of the 36-hour provision? |
If a member of the public complains about a rented RV parked on a public street or alley but the parking enforcement officer identifies it as being owned by a rental company, a 36 hour noticed will be issued. After 36 hours, if the RV is not removed a parking tag may be issued resulting in a $50.00 fine ($40.00 early payment incentive program). |
Why did I get a fluorescent orange NOTICE sticker on my RV? |
This notice is a reminder that you must move your RV within 36 hours. If you receive an orange notice on your RV, call (403) 537-7100 for a full explanation. |
Can I park my RV in front of my neighbour's home? |
It is an offence to park in front of your neighbour's home, even momentarily. Should your neighbour complain about your RV parked in front of his/her home, a parking enforcement officer will be dispatched to the area and will normally issue a $50.00 fine ($40.00 early payment incentive program). If the RV obstructs access to private property, the vehicle may be impounded and held at the Municipal Impound Lot until towing and storage charges are paid.
Towing RVs is a very expensive and inconvenient procedure. This action is taken only in extreme cases where access or public safety is compromised. Please park responsibly to avoid this cost. |
Can I store my RV on public streets and alleys? |
City streets and alleys cannot accommodate the long-term storage of RVs. Street space in residential and other areas is needed for passenger vehicles and visitor parking. In addition, the size of most RVs can cause safety problems as they restrict the view of signs, pedestrians and other vehicles. |
Where can I store my RV for long periods of time? |
Options for this include RV storage parks (see the RV Parking listing in the Yellow Pages) or in your own backyard.
